Illustrator Meeting

We met last night at Joan's home. Just 4 of us: Joan, Kate, Arlene and myself. Kate brought some tasty monkey bread. Arlene presented a picture she did since our last meeting in a warm fantasy style. Joan showed some illustrations she has been presenting for a children's book by a noted local sport's hero. They are wanting a style not Joan's so (networking) Joan will show them the printer's sample of the book I have been working on to see if my style will do. I also brought some stuff from a book idea I have been stuck on for a long time. I had brought a version of the story to the writer's meeting on 7/18.

Joan also showed a book of auto illustrations and was going to show us her latest Power Point talk that she gave but we ran short on time. She had her cards printed and they will soon be ready to buy. She will also be off to Calif. for a project using her Blue Santa. We spent some time looking on the net using the big screen TV.

We are planning some trips: Illustration Museum in Newport, Eric Carle Museum, painting. Our first trip will be plein air painting sponsored by htpp://www. bristolartmuseum.org. We will meet at the Bristol Library to go to the site which is a church for 3 PM. It is Sunday Aug. 9: 3 to 6 for a fee ($4 or $5).

Our next meeting is at Joan's home Monday 8/31 at 7PM.

Writers Meeting

We met Saturday. Judy, Arlene, Patty, Joan and I were there. 3 of us had stories which seemed somewhat similar in that they all involved animals. Arlene read hers which Incorporated our past topics: trunk (sorry I forget the others) and came together as a promising story. I brought a draft of a story I had started years ago. Also brought the printer sample of the cartoon book that is being self published and received some helpful comments on some revision needed. Joan brought cards she is planning to publish this year. Judy brought a more polished draft of the story she is working on.

Our next writer's meeting is 9:15 Barnes and Noble Sat. Aug 22. The topic is "hula hoop."

Illustrator Meeting

On June 3rd we had a great meeting at Joan's home and I am sorry to have waited so long to post something about it because I might overlook something someone shared at that meeting. In addition to opening her home to us, Joan provided food and drinks. We spent some time talking upstairs where I got some help with the design of the adult cartoon book I am working on. Helpful Art books were shared. I recall Jacqueline showing a picture of a tree she did in needlepoint. We went to Joan's computers and she showed us some things you can do with Photoshop. I've taken a course but learned more about that magic wand. She also showed us the Power Point talk she has used at school visits. I was impressed with how open and revealing Joan was about her work process and by the different things she has done.

Joan
I think I need a class in this first before the photoshop class.

Eggplant

Saturday meeting

We had a great meeting on Sat. May 16. There were only 5 of us. We all brought something to the meeting. Having a theme helps some of us to produce. Our theme was eggplant. Danielle brought a story that could be a beginning for a longer work. It had eggplants in it but she also brought a drawing of an eggplant. Arleen brought a funny eggplant soup recipe and a drawing of an elephant which went with the recipe. Jackie brought pictures. I don't remember any eggplants but the pictures were well worth seeing. Joan brought a ceramic eggplant that she had designed and also showed a Power Point story. I brought a painting of an eggplant.

All are welcome to the illustrators meeting which will be at Joan's home June 3, 7 PM.

Next writer's meeting is at Barnes and Noble, Sat June 13 9:15. The small group works well but it would be nice to know ahead of time who is or is not going to the meeting. It is far for some to drive and it saves worry to know ahead that someone else will be there. Our theme is "trunk."

Whispering Pines

I wanted to say that it was nice to see a few of you at Whispering Pines this weekend. As many of you know, I received the full weekend as a Christmas gift. With two editors, an agent, an author and an author/illustrator this year, I must say that it was an amazing weekend. I had a fabulous experience and spent a lot of time with all of the mentors. I do have a lot of work to do, and a lot to change on my manuscript, but I am inspired. I am hoping to make it to the meeting in May, but am not making any promises to myself (or you guys) yet. Please keep me up to date with the group. Hope that you are all finding time to write.
Julia

Hello!

Hi guys.

I am just trying this out. I hope that you don't mind me lurking. I truly do want to be kept in the loop with the group. This group has been a BIG part of my life for the last 5 years.

Keep in touch, and hopefully I will be back sooner than expected.

Julia

If you aren't able to post, e-mail me. When I set up the site, I didn't know how to allow others to post. Now I know. I have to invite you. I invited some of you because I got your e-mail addresses from old e-mails. If I left you out, send me your e-mail and I can invite you.
Thanks,
Jill

Group assignment

Our next meeting is on Saturday, April 18th at 9:15 am at Barnes & Nobles.   Our assigned topic is "the haircut".  With the smaller group, we had time to review our assigned writings.  We had additional time and some of the group brought follow up material on previous writings.  As the newest member of the group, the smaller group dynamic was very helpful.

Peace,
Judy Farley

We met today

There were only 5 of us but it went well. We all presented our versions of the assignment, "funny hats." Fun to see the differences. One person presented her work in progress. We looked at Dragon software. There was a lot shared about process.

This blog is a place to share your ideas and post things. Pictures welcome. If you have a better idea for the blog name and address, am open to suggestions.

Topic for next meeting is "haircut."
